Three Things to Do After You Pay Your Property Taxes
County of San Diego Property Taxes
Property tax season is a good reminder to do a quick but important review of your bill, because two easy oversights could be costing you money or leaving your home vulnerable.
First, make sure you are receiving the Homeowner Exemption. If this is your primary residence, you are entitled to a $7,000 exemption on your assessed value. It is easy to miss and easy to fix.
Second, if you have a trust, confirm that the property is titled in the name of the trust — not you as an individual or couple. This is a common and costly oversight that often goes unnoticed until it matters most.
Finally, sign up for the San Diego County Assessor's fraud alert at https://www.sdarcc.gov/owneralert/ You will be notified anytime someone attempts to record anything against your deed, a simple step that offers real peace of mind.
Not sure where to start? I am happy to pull up your property tax record and walk through it with you. Reach out anytime. It is one of those things that takes minutes but makes a real difference.
